Wisdom and Revelation

One of the key prayers I use on a weekly basis is found in Ephesians 1:17-19

making mention of you in my prayers: that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe

It’s about growing in the knowledge of Jesus Christ, not just knowing about Him, but an experiential knowledge that comes out of relationship with Him. It’s about having our inner eyes, the eyes of our hearts, so awakened and enlightened that we would perceive and appreciate the incredible gifts, graces and glory we have in and through Christ.

Key to this is to keep receiving the spirit of wisdom and revelation from God the Father. Both these aspects are so important to us. Revelation shows us something or someone, answering our ‘what or who’ questions. Wisdom answers the ‘how to’ questions. The spirit of revelation shows us more of who Jesus is and what He has for us; the spirit of wisdom shows us how to respond to Him and enter into a greater depth of relationship with Him.

Revelation will show us what God is doing and saying; wisdom will tell us what we are to do in response. They work well together!
