Today’s Blog comes from Bill Swale, another of our Deacons. Thanks Bill!
I asked myself the other day, “What is life all about, what’s the purpose?”
We are born, of which we have no control and what are our first reactions, to cry, seek mothers breast and be loved. We didn’t ask to come into the world, that was our parents decision, but was it? It says in the Psalm 139 that God knew us before we were born. It goes on to say in verse 16 that “Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” That tells me that life is all about living in God’s presence whether we like it or not. He hears us when we cry, he provided the resources for our food and most of all He loves us. Just like babies.
Genesis records the reason why we were created. In chapter 1 we read,
“Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.””
But we screwed up, Eve ate the apple and we were then destined to toil in order to live. So why are some of us frustrated and getting bored? Because we cannot toil.
I urge you then to first of all read God’s word Psalm 139, to lift your spirit then toil as you do a puzzle, read a book, go for a walk, shop, cook, iron etc. As you do it, no matter how mundane do it singing some worship hymn or song and enjoy being alive.
There is a fairly old song which goes:-Because He lives I can face tomorrow.
Because He lives all fear is gone. Because I know who holds the future.
